Smart Delta Resources partners TotalEnergies/Zeeland Refinery and Air Liquide have announced a joint investment of €600 million in the construction of a 250 MW electrolyser near the Zeeland Refinery in Vlissingen-Oost. This large-scale project for the production of green hydrogen is an important step in making the regional industry more sustainable.

The planned electrolyser, which is scheduled to be operational in 2029, will produce up to 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. The majority of this is intended for the Zeeland Refinery, of which TotalEnergies has a 55% ownership. By using green hydrogen in the refining process, the refinery’s CO₂ emissions can be reduced by up to 300,000 tonnes per year. This initiative is in line with the agreement in principle on CO₂ reduction that Zeeland Refinery concluded with the Dutch government at the end of 2023.

Applications for support from European and national subsidy programmes have been submitted to realise this ambitious project. With this initiative, TotalEnergies and Air Liquide are strengthening their commitment to the energy transition and contributing to the sustainability of industry in the region.
